More of an infomercial than a text

This book is well organized, but severely lacking in many ways. I used it last year when teaching for PT school, and some of my colleagues used it in their classes as well. After one semester of use, we all decided to make a switch. The book reads far more like an infomercial than it does a text which is supposed to give an objective look at the modality in question. My students noticed the exact same thing, and stated openly that the book was trying to push the use of a particular modality, even while at the same time not showing any evidence in support. We switched to the Cameron text and are supplementing that with articles, and specific chapters from some other books such as the Belanger.

I love this book! Everything is explained clearly and logically. This book helped me a lot while preparing for NPTE exam. It gives the idea of how to use and integrate different types of modalities and describes very well the inflammation process. Must have this book!

About the Author

Paul Davidson Reynolds�has�been the author or co-author of five books; seven edited collections; 42 research reports and monographs; 85 peer review journal articles and book chapters; eight data sets placed in public archives; and over two hundred presentations to professional and policy audiences.�He served� as the director of the Babson Research Conference from 1996 to 2000 and as co-director of the George Washington University-ICSB research conference from 2010 to 2012. In 2004�he received the annual Swedish International Award for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Research and in 2012 the Dedication to Entrepreneurship (Research) Award from the Academy of Management Entrepreneurship Division.

superb intro to structure of behavioral theories

I read this book as a grad school and then used it many years later when teaching an undergrad seminar. I loved it, and the students did, too.

The book is incredibly concise, clear. The book starts with the idea of concept and works its way (quickly) up to theories. Then the link between theory and empiricism is explored very briefly.

If you have ever wondered what a "theory" is or by what criteria you could judge one, this is your book.

About the Author

Graham Allan was a student of mathematics at Cambridge University, England, and obtained his PhD there in 1964. After periods as a Fellow at Cambridge, as a lecturer at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and as Professor of Pure Mathematics at the University of Leeds, Graham returned to Cambridge as a lecturer in mathematics in 1978, and he became a Reader in Functional Analysis in 1980. Graham was a Fellow of Churchill College from 1978, Director of Studies in Mathematics from 1985, and Vice-Master of the College 1990-93.

Premi�re Biographie des Cocteau Twins

Cette biographie bien document�e tient pour th�me la singularit� de Cocteau Twins dans sa dynamique, mais aussi dans sa quete pour donner un sens � leur son. Elle explique le d�calage du groupe par rapport � la sc�ne de l'�poque. Les enjeux esth�tiques deviennent alors une d�marche non pas en r�action � la new wave, au gothique ou � l'After Punk, mais centr�e autour des trois membre du groupe. On peut ainsi partiellement comprendre, sinon esquisser, la d�marche initialement autistique de Robin Guthrie, � mon sens l'un des guitaristes les plus importants de la fin du 20�me si�cle. Une �bauche se fait autour d'Elizabeth Fraser, montrant une jeune femme � la recherche de sa propre lumi�re int�rieure dans sa voix et ses mots. On regrettera la faible part, � mon sens, accord�e � Simon Raymonde, qui, on le soupsconne, fut le liant, le fr�re, l'ami, celui par qui le groupe put tenir si longtemps sous la tension du couple infernal.
La th�se de la singularti� de Cocteau Twins tenue, l'auteur peut mettre le groupe � l'origine de mouvement musicaux plus r�cent. On felicitera Jean-Christophe Manuceau pour accorder une grande part de son ouvrage au label 4AD, a ses cr�ateur, aux graphistes de 23 Env. mais aussi aux membres du groupes qui continuent leures carri�res en solo.
Esp�rons que cette premi�re biographie redonne � Robin Guthrie au moins la place qu'il m�rite dans l'histoire de la musique parmis les meilleurs guitaristes de sa g�n�ration avec les Bernard Butler, Johnny Marr, Tom Verlaine.

About the Author

Dr. Robert M. Sherfield is currently a Professor in the School of Arts and Letters at The College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, Nevada.  He is a nationally recognized educator, writer, and speaker having spent the past 27 years working with faculty development, first year student success programs, student motivation, and retention.

 

An award-winning educator, Robb was named Educator of the Year at the College of Southern Nevada.  He twice received the Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award from The University of South Carolina at Union and has received numerous other awards and nominations for classroom instruction and advisement.

Upon graduation, Emily landed a prestigious full-time job as forensic anthropologist for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, a state with an alarmingly high murder rate and thousands of square miles of rural backcountry, where bodies are dumped and discovered on a regular basis. But even with her work there, Emily has been regularly called to investigations across the country, including the site of the terrorist attack on the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City, where a mysterious body part—a dismembered leg—was found at the scene and did not match any of the known
victims. Through careful scientific analysis, Emily was able to help identify the leg’s owner, a pivotal piece of evidence that helped convict Timothy McVeigh.

The only full-time state employee in her field, Craig utilizes her expertise to identify victims from the tiniest remnant of tissue or bone. The author's reputation as an international expert on human anatomy led her to reconstructing faces of the dead from skull fragments to aid the police. Her credentials involved her in many notorious cases, most notably Waco, the Oklahoma City bombing and the destruction of the World Trade Center. In each instance, her dedication, professionalism and knowledge played key roles; Craig's scientific analysis established that more than one-third of the dead at Waco had died before the fire as a result of a mass murder-suicide by the Branch Davidians. She also rebutted claims that the real bomber of the Murrah Federal Building had died in the explosion by proving that a mysterious severed limb actually belonged to a victim. Analogous in spirit to Clea Koff's account of exhuming mass graves in Rwanda and Croatia (The Bone Woman [BKL My 15 04]), Craig's memoir presents her experiences drawn from the past decade as an expert on human bones. Like Koff, she stresses the strain that arises from maintaining a businesslike application of her expertise to the macabre facts of decomposed human remains. Nevertheless, readers discover how burnt, shattered, shot, or sawed-off bones harbor vital clues, and, interestingly, how Craig reconciles such forensic information with occasionally erroneous missing-persons information. I've bought this book two times!

I bought Polish translation of this book a long time ago. I loved it, but someone borrowed it from me... I've tried to buy it once again, but it wasn't available. I was really happy when I found it on Amazon - and bought it once again.
There is a bunch of very interesting stories. They seems to be more interesting than fiction books.
Emily Craig was working on many cases important to US, like Waco and WTC. She wrote about science, trauma, but she is not only a ice-cool scientist, but human.
If you are interested in subject of forensic anthropology, probably you would like to read these books as well:

A MUST READ for any Law Enforcement Investigator

I am a Detective with a Sheriff's Department in a mid-west state. This year I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Craig on a 20 year old Jane Doe case. From day one, it was obvious that Dr. Craig was one of the tops in her field but it wasn't until I read her book that I realized just how amazing her career has been. The work she has done is nothing less than remarkable. Teasing Secrets from the Dead gave me a tremendous amount of insight in to my own case which was recently solved.
