Este libro me decepciono. Aunque el autor es un reconocido historiador y escritor, este libro le da demasiado �nfasis al aspecto econ�mico y a la producci�n azucarera. Habla muy poco de las figuras principales de la historia cubana. No comenta nada sobre la vida social y cultural de Cuba. A veces le da mas importancia a personajes de EU y Espa�a, como si la historia de Cuba hubiera sido regida exclusivamente por estos pa�ses.

Spectacular

There are no words to express my gratitude to bell hooks for writing this book. This was one of the first books I've read where I felt it was my story. There's so much silence and suppression in the African-American community that has altered and distorted who are and in particular, women. However, bell does not park at the problem in the book. She offers solutions. One of my favorite lines in her book is that "we recover ourselves in the act and art of loving". Should not be missed!

Excellent book. You don't have to agree with all what is said there, but it can make you think differently. One of the books where if you do not read between the lines, you are loosing a lot of the content. The story is secondary. And definitely, this is not the book you would read or even want to read in one day.

Overall, it's an extraordinary accomplishment. Together with Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra, one of the best books out there.

A surprisingly noble and generous view of life

I would add to the previous three reviews a brief note on the exceptional quality of the English translation. It is rare indeed for a translation to rival its uniquely poetic original. There will be plenty of readers for whom the esthetic enjoyment of the finely mastered English language will provide, on its own, a source of inspiration and endless wonder. This book is also one of my most prized posessions. Its reaparition in print may signify the longing for civilization and reason of a world saturated with ignorance, abject superficiality and blindly upheld pseudo-values. Those still able to think - rejoice!

A book for all seasons of life and for all leaders

This is an inspiring, life changing book for all wanna-be leaders. Like Pascal's pens�es, it is a collection of thoughts slowly matured through Saint-Exupery's extraordinary life. The English translation has 123 selected thoughts, the French (more redundant version) has 219. The main character of the book is a king who governs the people of a city in the Sahara desert. He rules harshly (by today's diluted democratic standards) but in sincere and deep love for his people. His sense of duty is a model to all leaders. There is no story line as in the Little Prince story. The thoughts are profound and fertile. You will find yourself constantly using a highlighter, as do people reading the Bible. Some thoughts may even permanently change the way you view things. Like waves hammering the rocky shore, they are constantly rephrased, rebuilt around different images, repeatedly knocking you out of your comfort zone - and forcing you to reconsider what you have always found acceptable (read St-Ex's views on liberty). Saint-Exupery celebrates labour, movement, force in motion, regenerative and creative struggles. Like Pascal, he harshly critiques"l'esprit de divertissement", this anaesthetic leisure which leads to death. My only regret is that the English version of the book does not include an index (Phoenix book published by the university of Chicago press - translation by Stuart Gilbert).

Buy the book its worth the money you'll make if you get hired.

Buying the book is worth it. A few of the questions were on the test. FEW EXAMPLES :What is the effective value of voltage? Boolean truth table was on the exam. Questions about fulcrums, relief valves. I studied EET in college. Also, studied Aircraft Maintenance. So to give it a shot I decided to buy the book. The book is so extensive. As a backup I went to the library and burrowed the old exam study book for the 931. That book actually had a few questions in it as well. Since the books are so big and you only have about a week to study after applying to the USPS, I first copied the list of letter answers in the back of each section then reviewed the questions. After reading the question, I looked at the answer. This saved me a lot of time.I reviewed both books in less than a week. I spent an extensive amount of time on the spatial section. Studying for hours at a time. The exam contains welding, like whats the first weld called? Why do you braze and blaze? Why do you preheat the metal ?Also on the exam were electrical engineering questions concerning inductance, capacitance, shunts, short circuited transformer to work on it. My advice.. if your not applying for the electrical tech position, don't study that part in the book. You will not understand it neither will you pass it on the test so you will be wasting valuable time studying electrical engineering out of this book. The book actually help me with some of the questions on the exam even though the questions that were in the book was not on the test but the language and terms were helpful. Studying and along with Prayer...I passed by The Blood of Jesus with a 74. Hallelujah!!!

I am a postal employee for 29 years and I made a 99.9 on the test back then. I had friends that purchased the book and made a perfect 100. I have purchased this book for several of my friends that passed the test and work at the postal service. I am a true believer in the book because it really show u the process of learning to study and pass the postal exam, not to mention all the extras that come with the book for such a reasonable price. The approach is of a basic and introductory nature, geared towards the student and trainee cameraman. Professionals looking for a refresher course on the subject will also find this an invaluable reference packed with key information, theory and practical approaches to different lighting situations.

This book is based on the experience of the author as a practitioner and trainer. Location lighting requires decisions to be made quickly, with rarely any opportunity to experiment. The aim in writing this book is to give an insight into how the problems can be solvd and the pitfalls avoided!

Alan Bermingham operates as International Television Training and Consultancy (ITTC), specializing in television lighting. He was formerly a Senior Lecturer in Television Technical Operations at the BBC's engineering training Centre, Wood Norton, specializing in television lighting. He worked at TV-am as a Lighting Director and moved to Television South West, becoming Head of Lighting. Alan formed ITTC in 1992 and has given lighting training in over twenty countries. He is a co-author of Multiskilling for television Production and The Video Studio, also published by Focal Press.

Excellent reading for everyone interested in doing things right

It was enough for me to read parts of the book to be sure to buy it.

I am not very new to television and filmmaking and am quite a technical person. However, this book gave me a refreshment and added small but important details to my knowledge.

If you are worried about that the book is written in 2003, I can tell that information is by far not too old. This book has essentials that do not change and covers quite a wide range of gear.
